Meet the Atlanta CareerRise Team!

John Helton
Director

John Helton assumed leadership of CareerRise in June 2019, most recently currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director for CobbWorks, Inc. and WorkSource Cobb. Since its founding in 2000, Helton has led the organization in its growth from start-up to a staff of 35, along with providing significant leadership in workforce development at the local and national levels, including his current role as the President of the Southeastern Employment & Training Association (SETA). Prior to that, Helton was Deputy Director of Cobb County’s Department of Family and Children Services. He holds a BS in Public and Social Services from Kennesaw State University and is a certified Senior Professional in Human Services.

Natania Carter
Director of Operations

Natania Carter was a 2018 National Urban Fellow with the Annie E. Casey Foundation-Atlanta Civic Site where she conducted research focused on economic opportunity and managed programming in the Atlanta community. As a fellow, she earned her Masters in Public Administration from Baruch College. Prior to that she was a Senior Process Engineer in the pharmaceutical industry and holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Florida State University. The combination of her past experiences allows her to apply a systems-thinking approach to complexities in workforce development to help facilitate economic self-sufficiency.

Helen Slaven
Industry Partnerships Director

Helen serves as director of Metro Atlanta Industry Partnerships, a regional workforce collaborative led by Atlanta CareerRise and WorkSource Metro Atlanta, a collaboration of five area WorkSource boards. With a goal to provide employers with skilled employees for good jobs and help build strong communities, Helen works with over 50 employers and 100+ workforce partners including academic institutions, chambers of commerce, community providers, government agencies and workforce development boards to develop programs and services that serve the needs of area employers and job seekers. Helen brings expertise and insight to this work with a background in human resources, organization and community development and change management.
