Workforce Partnerships in Action

Logistics

We established our Logistics Workforce Partnership in 2014 to provide employers in the airport-based logistics, distribution and transportation industries with the talent pipeline they need for growth, putting individuals on a pathway to a career that pays sustainable wages.

The Partnership has identified two logistics segments to target for pilot projects: Entry Level International Trade (due to the turnover and training needs for front-end office workers) and Warehouse/Distribution (due to the large number of warehouse/distribution firms in the airport area and projected growth).

Milestone Achievements:

  • In January 2015, Introduction to Customs Brokering was launched by Mullins International Solutions and Clayton State University as a 9-day curriculum for data entry clerks to transition to import administrators. Through a special arrangement of CareerRise with the National Customs Brokers & Forwarders Association of America Educational Institute, graduates of the course immediately can sit for the Certified Customs Specialist certification.
  • A Warehousing and Distribution Certificate Program (MSSC) was launched in 2015 by the Bobby Dodd Institute for clients who are unemployed or new to the industry. Students test for and earn the Certified Logistics Associate and Certified Logistics Technician credentials during three weeks of intense course preparation. The program also includes internship opportunities plus placement support and coaching.
